The macOS menu bar looks fixed, but every icon is movable with one modifier key. Here's the complete how-to.
Move an icon
Hold Command and drag any menu-bar icon left or right. Release where you want it. This works for Apple icons (Wi-Fi, Battery, Sound, Now Playing) and third-party app icons alike.
The only fixed items are the clock and Control Center, which stay pinned to the far right.
Remove an icon
Command-drag the icon down off the menu bar and release — it disappears (the app keeps running). For Apple icons, use System Settings → Control Center and set the item to "Don't Show in Menu Bar".
Reorder around the notch
On MacBooks with a notch, place your most-used icons toward the right (clock side) so they never risk falling behind the notch. If you have many icons, a manager like Ice or Bartender keeps them organised automatically.
Bring back the default order
Re-enable Apple icons in Control Center and they return to their standard positions. Third-party icons reappear when you toggle them on in each app's settings.
Free up the bar entirely
If your bar is crowded, move functions into the notch. NotchNest puts calendar, clipboard, notes, Pomodoro, music and AirDrop in a hover panel — letting you delete several menu-bar icons outright.
